The High Sheriff of Cheshire, Clare Hayward MBE DL, recently visited the Charity Christmas Card Shop at Wilmslow Library, expressing her enthusiasm for the initiative.

During her visit, Clare officially opened the shop and explored the wide range of card designs and featured charities. She was delighted to learn that 100% of their sales going back to the charities, a distinctive feature of this collaborative effort. Additional proceeds from gifts, toys, and Christmas decorations help cover operational costs and hopefully enough to give all the Charities an equal bonus.

“I was thrilled to be able to meet you all in your very welcoming charity card shop. The work energy and commitment is very impressive. A huge thank you.” Clare said. Some of the many charity volunteers who are involved with and benefit from the shops were introduced to Clare. This included Meadow a black lab who is currently being trained by Ken for the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Wilmslow Wells and NW Cancer Research were also on hand to meet the High Sheriff. Clare took the opportunity to browse the selection and purchased cards to send out this festive season, along with a few additional Christmas treats.

The Christmas card shops, also located in libraries across Macclesfield, Knutsford, and Sale, thrive on community support. Volunteer Jill Dodson added, “Even if you’re only looking to send a few cards, we encourage everyone to visit—there’s much more to see and purchase while supporting these wonderful charities that rely on your generosity. They are truly a one-stop shop for Christmas cards and festive novelties.

Combined Charity Christmas Card Shops

Founded in 1971 and still run by Sheila Hallas MBE and many other volunteers, The Combined Charities Christmas Card Shops have raised over £6m. A unique approach, the shops enable over 40 charities to get together and sell their cards, with 100% of the sales going back to the charities. This is possible due to the volunteers and the sale of Christmas gifts to cover overheads. From late October to early December every year, the shops, in libraries across Cheshire, offer consumers the chance to purchase charity cards.
