April in Wilmslow: Big Crowds, Brilliant Sunshine and Back-to-Back Events

April saw Wilmslow’s high street transformed twice over, as two standout free events brought the community together in celebration, food, colour and creativity. The Wilmslow Street Food Fest and the very first Wilmslow Comic Con Event both took place under perfect spring skies, drawing big crowds and giving the town centre a welcome boost in footfall and atmosphere.

Whether it was the smell of sizzling gyros, the sight of a Transformer on Grove Street, or the sound of live acoustic music drifting between stalls, the month proved exactly why Wilmslow is fast becoming a go-to destination for quality events with a local heart.

Wilmslow Street Food Fest: A Feast for the Town

In April, Wilmslow Street Food Fest returned with a vibrant mix of new flavours, community spirit and sunshine. From Greek gyros and loaded fries to churros, bao buns and wood-fired pizza, the event delivered something for every taste — and then some.

But what made this edition especially memorable was the way Wilmslow’s own businesses stepped up and joined in. Local favourites Suburban Green, The Wine Cellar, Potyo, Mucky Pup, Konak Café and Café Azul all extended their offer outdoors, creating mini pop-up spaces with food, drink and entertainment right outside their premises. Their involvement brought an added layer of energy to the day and gave visitors the chance to experience more of what Wilmslow’s high street has to offer.

Live music from Black Sheep Lad added to the welcoming feel, with acoustic covers and original songs providing a relaxed soundtrack as people browsed, ate and soaked up the sunshine.

Comic Con Market Returns

Just two weeks later, Wilmslow welcomed hosted one of its most visually striking events for the first time — the Wilmslow Comic Con Event. The day saw superheroes, sci-fi favourites and cosplayers bring Grove Street to life.

Crowds gathered throughout the day to meet characters like Bumblebee, Spider-Man and Optimus Prime, while themed stalls offered everything from rare comics and graphic novels to collectibles, merchandise and hand-crafted artwork.

Families and fans came dressed for the occasion, and a series of free superhero workshops ran throughout the day, giving younger visitors the chance to get involved and learn something new. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on the inclusive and welcoming atmosphere and the strong organisation of the event.

Local Businesses Leading the Way

Both events were a reminder of the strength and resilience of Wilmslow’s independent business community, many of whom went above and beyond to support and enhance the offer. By taking part, providing space, offering deals or simply extending a warm welcome, they helped turn two already-popular events into something truly memorable.

And it wasn’t just about food and entertainment. These events also drew attention to the wider town centre offer — from fashion and beauty to gift shops, salons, barbers and galleries. With thousands of visitors passing through over both weekends, the increased visibility for the high street will have had a lasting impact.
