MONDAY 3RD MARCH, LONDON: In celebration of its 60th birthday, the nation’s most iconic

pizzeria brand, PizzaExpress, is shaking things up with the launch of a new menu on

Tuesday 11th March, re-imagining some of its classic dishes with bold new twists. The menu

blends exciting new creations with fresh takes on fan- favourites, offering something for

everyone as it marks its milestone birthday.

Its new menu sees the arrival of the Queen Margherita – a twist on everyone’s favourite

Margherita, the all-new pizza is gaining a crown for the birthday, with an entire ball of

creamy burrata sitting atop the delicious garlic and mozzarella creation pizza fans know

and love.

Additionally, the innovative menu features two exciting new takes on its iconic Dough Balls.

Enter Blazing Hot Dough Balls – in collaboration with Sauce Shop, the pair of brands have

created PizzaExpress’ hottest-ever Dough Balls, coated in irresistible melted garlic butter

and packed with the heat of Sauce Shop’s Original Hot Sauce. These fiery balls of dough

really pack a punch and come served with an extra side of dipping sauce for those who

like it extra spicy.

For a sweet take on this fan favourite dish, PizzaExpress’ Golden Caramel Chocolate

Dough Balls are the perfect birthday tribute (move aside traditional birthday cakes!) – an

indulgent dessert paired with salted caramel sauce and caramel chocolate dip, finished

with a touch of gold dust for added celebratory flair. From Dough Balls to classic pizzas, PizzaExpress is celebrating 60 years of iconic flavours

with a bold new menu, and the excitement doesn’t stop there with four further creations

giving nod to the brands inception. Back in 1965, after its founder, Peter Boizot, returned

from Italy and struggled to find a proper pizza in London, he created PizzaExpress – so to

further mark the celebrations, the brand has created four dishes in ode to Italy, each

celebrating the flavours of a specific region:

• Romana Calabrian Hot – A fiery fiesta of spicy ‘nduja, pepperoni, hot red chilli and

tomato, finished with a drizzle of hot honey – the perfect combination of sweet and

heat.

• Romana Lombardy Speciale – A delightfully fresh pizza for spring, featuring

bresaola, Italian artichokes, and peppery rocket on a bechamel base, topped with

a truffle and lemon dressing and shavings of Gran Milano.

• Romana Spicy Melanzane – Chargrilled aubergines, tomato, garlic, smoky chilli and

jalapeno peppers with a sprinkling of vegan mozzarella. It joins the menu where at

least 50% of the options are already vegan or vegetarian.

• Meatballs Al Forno – Tender beef meatballs baked in a rich tomato and garlic

sauce with just a hint of chilli, topped with Gran Milano and a side of toasted Dough

Sticks.

Toasting to 60 years, PizzaExpress has launched a special range of drinks, including a

second collaboration with Meantime Brewing Company, creating the Birthday Brew IPA,

which features peachy tropical flavours, with the British brewing company – designed to

perfectly accompany the new menu.

Paula Mackenzie, CEO at PizzaExpress, said: “For 60 years, PizzaExpress has been serving

up iconic dishes, and so we’re excited to give pizza aficionados a slice of their favourites

with a bold new twist. From the indulgent Queen Margherita to fiery Blazing Hot Dough

Balls, our new menu celebrates everything iconic about the brand, reimagined.”

What’s more, to mark its birthday, fans can enjoy PizzaExpress’ set menu, with any starter

and classic pizza available for just £19.65 when dining in, as well as a range of delivery

bundles available via PizzaExpress Delivers – including the delivery exclusive Double

Margherita, featuring two types of mozzarella.
