The Lindow Ensemble consists of 12 string players, directed from the violin by Steven Wilkie, a leading professional player with a national reputation and senior tutor in violin at the Royal Northern College of Music. The musicians are full-time professionals, students or recent alumni of the RNCM and amateur players of a high standard. Anthony Gilbert, who died in 2023, was formerly Head of the School of Composition at the RNCM. Christopher Newton is a current master’s student there.

Community work is an increasing focus of the ensemble’s activities, and this season in partnership with Bolton Music Service it will deliver an educational programme for primary schools there, and also in and Tameside.
