A summer to look forward to in Wilmslow
What’s on in May and why Street Fest is the one to plan around

May in Wilmslow is the kind of month that rewards people who get organised early. The weather starts to behave, the town feels busier and the calendar fills up with events that give you an excuse to get out, meet friends, support local businesses and make a proper day of it, rather than defaulting to the same old routine.
If you like having plans in the diary, this is your month and the headline is Street Fest on Friday 15th May, which is going full Wild West in Bank Square. Cowboy hats are encouraged and yes, you can channel your inner John Wayne or your favourite character from Yellowstone. Get your chaps on, pull on the cowboy boots and you can bet your last dollar we will have Bank ‘Square’ dancing.
This article is your guide to what’s on in May 2026, how to plan it and how to make the most of being in Wilmslow while the town is buzzing.

Street Fest meets the Wild West
The town’s big May moment Let’s be honest, town events land best when they have a theme people can lean into and this one is built for it. Street Fest on Friday 15th May, 5pm-9pm, is bringing a Western Rodeo feel right into Bank Square and the only correct way to approach it is to go all in. Think cowboy hats, denim, boots, big energy and a bit of playful theatre. We’ll have both kinds of music too, country and western. 🎶🤠
Expect proper Wild West entertainment on the day, with acoustic country duo Kodiak playing live, cowboy and cowgirl stilt walkers, line dancers roaming the town getting everyone involved, plus a cow mascot with a cowgirl chaperone for extra photo moments.
It is the kind of event where you can just turn up and enjoy it, but you will get more out of it if you plan to stay in town and make a proper night of it.

Here is how to make Street Fest feel like a real occasion.
First, invite people, even if it’s just a quick message that says “Let’s do Wilmslow on Friday”. Events like this are more fun when you share them.
Second, Come into town a bit earlier, have a wander, then head into Bank Square for the atmosphere, Street Food and Music.
Third, lean into the theme. It doesn’t have to be fancy, a hat, a bandana, boots, a denim jacket, it all adds to the fun if you do-si-do.
Channel your inner Yellowstone, pick your side and dress the part. Saddle up as Beth with the attitude, Rip with the tooth pick or Lloyd with that handle bar moustache. Cowboy hat, boots on and come ready to bring a bit of the Wild Montana to Wilmslow.
Last year Street Fest gave Wilmslow a proper buzz, the town was busy, the atmosphere was unreal and you could feel the energy everywhere. This year is set to be bigger and better, more reason to come in, more to see and more of that feel good town centre sparkle that makes you want to stay longer, wander more and discover businesses you might usually walk straight past. Do not just hear about it from friends afterwards, be part of it. Dress up or don’t, go full rodeo or keep it casual, it’s your call, just get into town and enjoy it.

Week by week, what’s on in May
Friday 8th May
Fashion and film night at The Rex
This is a great way to kick off the month. Black White Denim is hosting a party night at The Rex cinema with The Devil Wears Prada 2, the sequel people have been waiting for. It’s one of those nights where the vibe does a lot of the work, you turn up, you dress the part if you fancy it, you enjoy the film and you feel like you’ve done something a bit more interesting than a normal Friday night. It also sets the tone for May, this is a month where Wilmslow is giving you reasons to get out.
Saturday 9th May
Community day and book lovers day
Saturday 9th is a strong “town day”. If you want something useful and family friendly, Wilmslow Health and Wellbeing Fair at the leisure centre is on from 12pm to 4pm. These events work because they are practical. You can listen to talks, get a free health check, keep the kids entertained and come away with something genuinely helpful. If you are trying to reset routines as the season changes, this is exactly the kind of local event worth supporting.
Also on Saturday 9th
Waterstones are hosting an author event with Kate Ellis.
Book events are underrated because they are calm, interesting and a nice way to spend part of a Saturday without spending a fortune. If you have someone in your life who loves crime fiction or you simply want a reason to visit town that isn’t food or shopping, an author event is a great option.
Wednesday 13th May
Wilmslow Historical Society talk
If you like local history and a proper community feel, the Wilmslow Historical Society talk is a great midweek plan and a good reminder that Wilmslow has plenty going on beyond weekends. East Meets West at the United Reformed Church brings people together around food and community, it’s welcoming, simple and a lovely way to meet others and try something different.
Thursday 14th and Thursday 28th May,
Musical bingo at The Mucky Pup
Musical bingo is the perfect “easy yes” plan. You do not need to know anyone, you do not need to dress up, you do not need to plan much, you just turn up and enjoy the atmosphere. That’s why it’s worth highlighting. It fills a gap between big town events and quieter evenings and it works brilliantly as a casual group plan. If you are trying to get more social events into your month, these are two dates to circle.
Friday 15th May,
Street Fest meets the Wild West in Bank Square
This is the headline day, get it in the diary, tell your mates and come hungry. Street Fest is going full Western Rodeo with proper street food, BBQ vibes and a town centre atmosphere made for grazing as you go. Cowboy hats encouraged, channel your inner cowboy or cowgirl or your favourite western character, pull on the boots and you can bet your last dollar Bank Square will be buzzing, with dancing and BBQ on the go.
Saturday 16th May,
Wilmslow Artisan Market
The day after Street Fest, the Artisan Market lands and it’s a perfect pairing. If Street Fest is high energy, Artisan Market is a slower paced wander. It’s the kind of event where you browse, pick up treats, find gifts and enjoy the fact that Wilmslow can feel like a proper destination rather than just a place you pass through. If you want a calm Saturday plan that still feels like you’ve done something, this is it.
Friday 29th May,
evening with Dr Jasmin Malik at Waterstones
If you like events with a bit of substance, this is a great way to finish the month. An evening talk or author style event is a good counterbalance to the bigger festival vibe days. It’s more reflective, more conversation led and it gives you something to talk about afterwards. These events also support the cultural side of the town, and they tend to attract a great crowd.
The regular favourites worth building into your routine parkrun at The Carrs Park Every Saturday, parkrun at The Carrs Park is one of Wilmslow’s best habits. You do not have to be a runner. People walk, volunteer, support friends and use it as a reason to start the weekend well. If you are looking for a routine that makes you feel good and connects you to the town, parkrun is a solid answer. You can do it every week in May and it will genuinely change how your weekends feel.
Coming next
Street Fest themes later this summer
If you love the idea of themed town events, Street Fest is not a one off.
There are two more dates to get in the diary now because they will be big.
Friday 24th July is Caribbean Carnival.
Friday 4th September is Circus and Cabaret Spectacular.
The themes are different, but the point is the same, these events bring energy into the town centre, create atmosphere and give you a reason to plan a day out locally rather than travelling elsewhere.
Final note
How to make May feel easy
The biggest difference between people who “always seem to be doing something” and people who miss everything is simple, they put the dates in the diary. That’s it.
If you take five minutes now and lock in Street Fest on Friday 15th May, the Artisan Market on Saturday 16th and one or two smaller events like a book signing or musical bingo, you’ve built yourself a better month without even trying. And with parkrun every Saturday, you’ve also got a simple weekly anchor that makes the weekends feel more positive.
Wilmslow is giving you plenty to look forward to this May. The only thing left to do is turn up.
